Have an idea for AA? Submit a Conference Topic

The General Service Conference is where the Fellowship comes together to consider matters that affect AA Australia as a whole. One way this happens is through Conference Topics — ideas put forward by members, groups, and service entities for discussion and possible action.

If you’ve ever thought, “This could help AA”, that’s exactly where a Topic begins.

Guideline 28, How a Conference Topic is Developed, explains how a Topic moves from an idea to an Advisory Action. It outlines what makes a good Topic, how to frame it clearly, and how it fits into AA’s group conscience process.

Topics can be submitted by any member and may come from individuals, groups, districts, areas or service groups. They are intended to benefit AA as a whole, rather than address local matters only.

If you’re considering submitting a Topic this year, now is the time.

The closing date for Conference Topics is 1 May.
Submissions received after this date will be considered for the following year’s Conference.

You don’t need to have everything perfect — but the clearer and more thought through a Topic is, the easier it is for Conference to consider and decide. It can also help to bring the idea to a local group conscience to see whether there is a need or a want for it.

Members are welcome to share something from their experience — a story, reflection, announcement, or question.
