Global Outreach
Alcoholics Anonymous Australia is part of a worldwide fellowship and, as such, is responsible for ensuring AA’s message of recovery is passed forward to other countries, just as it was given to us from America.
Alcoholics Anonymous Australia primarily does this in two ways – by sending delegates and providing funding support to Alcoholics Anonymous World Service Meeting, and Alcoholics Anonymous Asia Oceania Service Meeting.
World Service Meeting
The World Service Meeting, held every two years, is the collective conscience of our whole fellowship, holding final responsibility and the ultimate authority for the AA Fellowship worldwide.
Reaching Our Neighbour Countries
“The primary purpose of the Asia Oceania Service Meeting (AOSM) is to carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous to the alcoholics who still suffer in our region.
The AOSM seeks ways to accomplish this goal by providing a forum for the delegates to share the experience, strength, and hope of the countries they represent, who come together from all parts of Asia and Oceania.
Founders Day International Sponsorship Fund
The Founders Day Fund is a unique initiative that honours the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous. It celebrates AA’s history by providing an opportunity for members to contribute to the continued growth and development of the fellowship.
The AA Fellowship in Australia practices the principle of helping countries in need of our support by raising funds specifically for helping our neighbouring countries in the Asia-Oceania Zone via a special tradition called the “Brown Paper Bag” International Sponsorship Fund Appeal. These contributions support AA’s outreach efforts, ensuring that the message of hope reaches those in need throughout the region.
AA Founders Day is recognised on 10th June each year, that’s why the appeal is conducted in the week known as Founders Week. Contributions collected during Founders Week are allocated directly into funding AA Australias international efforts.
