Service Roles

Introduction

Service roles form part of the General Service Structure that connects AA groups across Australia.

At the national level, members serve in positions that support the work of the General Service Conference, helping ensure that AA services continue to support groups and carry the message to alcoholics who still suffer.

Some roles require nomination or endorsement through the Area service structure, while others accept direct applications.

National Service Roles

The following national service roles may become available from time to time as positions rotate within AA’s General Service Structure.

Regional Trustee

Regional Trustees represent their Region at the national level and serve on the General Service Board of Alcoholics Anonymous Australia.

They bring the experience and perspectives of AA members in their Region to the work of the Board and help support communication between the national service structure and the Areas they serve.

Applicants must be endorsed by the local Areas within their Region.

Service and Rotation

Service in Alcoholics Anonymous is built on the principle of rotation. Members serve for a period of time and then step aside so others may have the opportunity to contribute their experience and skills.

National service roles are one part of the wider service structure that connects AA groups throughout Australia.

Service in AA begins with the Group. Many members find their first experience of general service through local roles such as Group Service Representative (GSR), or other Group, District, and Area positions and over time some may be called to serve in wider roles within the Fellowship.

Members interested in local service are encouraged to speak with their Group, District, Area Committee or local Central Service Office.
