Service opportunities connected with the General Service Board (GSB) support the stewardship and oversight of Alcoholics Anonymous in Australia at a national level. These roles help guide policy, governance, and long-term decision-making so that AA’s services operate in line with the Twelve Traditions, Twelve Concepts, and the collective conscience of the Fellowship.
Regional Trustee
This application form is to be completed by applicants for Regional Trustee positions.
Regional Trustees represent the Areas within their region and participate in the work of the GSB, helping to connect the Fellowship’s group conscience with the national service structure.
Applications must be endorsed by a local Area Assembly within your region.

General Service Trustee
This application form is to be completed by applicants for General Service Trustee positions.
General Service Trustees work closely with the General Service Office (GSO) and the GSB to help oversee the delivery of national services.
Applicants must:
- Reside within commuting distance of the General Service Office
- Be able to attend monthly Management Group meetings at the office
- Be available to assist with oversight and support of GSO operations

Board Secretary
The Board Secretary provides administrative and coordination support to the GSB.
This is a voluntary service commitment for two terms of two years (2 × 2 years).
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing secretarial support to the General Service Board
- Managing correspondence and Letters of Appointment
- Coordinating onboarding of Trustees and Coordinators
- Updating ASIC and ACNC registers
- Maintaining the Board calendar and organising meetings (including Google Meet)
- Coordinating Board and business meetings, including venue and accommodation arrangements
- Assisting with General Service Conference administration
- Preparing meeting agendas and maintaining action lists
- Ensuring reports are submitted by Board members
- Undertaking additional administrative tasks as required
Board Secretary Application Form
Class A Trustee (Non-Alcoholic)
Class A Trustees are non-alcoholic members of the General Service Board who bring professional skills and external perspective to the governance of Alcoholics Anonymous in Australia.
The General Service Board includes:
- Six Regional Trustees
- Two General Service Trustees
- Up to four Class A (non-alcoholic) Trustees
Class A Trustees help the Board carry out its responsibilities as the governing body of AA’s national services.
Service Commitment
- Term: Five years
- Board meetings: Three per year (weekend meetings)
- National Conference: Three-day Conference held annually
- Additional meetings: Approximately three shorter online meetings during the year
- Committee meetings: Periodic videoconference meetings
Travel, accommodation and meals required to attend meetings are reimbursed.
